Hey, I’m Sudipto.

I build software, automate the boring parts of life, and occasionally write about it. This is my quiet corner of the internet.

Building this blog: Hugo, GitHub Actions, and zero servers

I wanted a blog that felt like writing in a text file and nothing more. I was inspired by James Montemagno’s post about rebuilding his site as a static blog — plain Markdown in a repo, built by Hugo, verified and published by GitHub Actions, served from GitHub Pages. No database, no CMS. Here’s the stack, start to finish. The stack Piece Tool Generator Hugo (extended) Theme PaperMod Content Markdown files in Git CI GitHub Actions Hosting GitHub Pages (free) The repo layout swiftarrow11.github.io/ ├── content/ │ ├── posts/ # your blog posts, as .md files │ ├── about.md │ ├── archive.md │ └── search.md ├── themes/PaperMod # git submodule ├── hugo.toml # site config └── .github/workflows/deploy.yml The deploy workflow The magic is a single Actions workflow that builds the site and hands the output to GitHub Pages. The key parts are the two least obvious permissions: ...

Hello, world.

I’ve put off starting a blog for years. The excuses were always the same: it needs a database, a CMS, a hosting bill, a comment system, an email newsletter, a server to patch… So this time I did the opposite. This site has: No database. Just Markdown files in a Git repository. No server to maintain. Hugo builds static HTML on GitHub Actions, and GitHub Pages serves it for free. No admin panel. I write posts in my editor and push to Git. No tracking, ads, or JavaScript bloat. It’s fast because it has almost nothing in it. The whole thing fits in one small repo, and I can rebuild it from scratch anywhere in a couple of minutes. That’s the kind of “simple but cool” I’m going for. ...

An iPhone forever to Oppo N5

For over a decade, my life in tech revolved around Apple. I was that person — always eagerly awaiting the next iPhone release, each one nestled snugly in my pocket before long. My household was decidedly Apple-centric: iPhones, iPads, even an Apple One subscription tying us all together. So, why on earth did I find myself drawn to an Android folding phone like the Oppo N5? Well, it all started with a hint of tech dissatisfaction. ...

The Future of AI, Synthetic Biogenetics, and Guaranteed Universal Income

I want to talk about something that came to my mind as I was reading “The Coming Wave” by Mustafa Suleyman. This book delves into the upcoming tech revolution of AI and Synthetic Biology and how they will transform our world. I was just on the chapter discussing the impact these technologies could have on jobs, and it got me thinking about Elon Musk’s advocacy for guaranteed universal income (GUI). ...

No Meeting Fridays: The Quiet Revolution

Disclaimer: The opinions and thoughts shared in this blog are solely my own and do not represent the views or policies of Microsoft Corporation in any way. I started writing this post about a year ago but never got around to posting it. I now feel it might be a little dated. A lot of people are now back to offices, though not quite in the same way as before. A lot of people are forced to go to office for attendance. Luckily for me Microsoft does not have any such companywide mandate like a bunch of our peers in the Greater Seattle Area region. I know of people who visit their respective offices close to midnight so that they can get the badge-in for that day and the next. Anyway, with that said, now let’s read what I had to say about No Meeting Fridays from a year ago… ...

I have an iPad, an iPhone, a Kindle and a work laptop. Is that too many?

Too many devices? — courtesy Bing Image Creator The Trouble with Too Many Devices Today I want to talk about a problem that I have been facing for a while now. It’s something that many of you might relate to, especially if you are a tech enthusiast like me. The problem is: I have too many personal devices and I don’t know how to use them all and when to use which one. ...

Why I chose Logseq over Onenote

I started using Logseq a couple of weeks back when I was introduced to it by a coworker who was new to Microsoft and was struggling with Onenote. He was all praises for Logseq and convinced me to give it a try. So, I did. Now about two weeks in, I am kind of loving Logseq. Onenote provides amazing sync capabilities, plus Onenote is something that I used for over a decade. So, I spent some time earlier today to see if I could go back to using Onenote. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s possible anymore. For me the main reasons are that Logseq is just simple and easy. ...

Minds — the chota peg series

Taming , tempering and reining the ever wavering human mind which in a stream of consciousness jumps wildly from one to another completely unrelated subject and also amazingly unifies these opposing thoughts to justify uncivilised action ,is the purpose of all philosophy, religion and education . AI the fourth industrial revolution of our times has. managed to predict with a great degree of accuracy human reaction to stimuli by machines but what about a mind which say equates a murder to patriotism or love to death. I and you are perfectly capable of thinking of simple normal matters in the most abnormal of ways. Years of civilisation, spirituality, rituals and education have not found an acceptable means of controlling the mind and teach it to think in straight lines. ...

You or none — the chota peg series

The young lady had decided that’s its either him or no one, the young man thought likewise. Affairs of the heart can be dangerous and may even alter the course of history. As they say had Cleopatras nose been an inch small the history of the world would have been different. Or imagine a face that launched a thousand ships .Many a bitter war, many a tragedy have emanated from the she or he at any cost or any price. Passion can be such a powerful mode of destruction. Sometimes it devours all the characters involved. No one is willing to take a step back and pacify and take a step back and recast his or her prejudices, jealousy and emotional involvement. But that’s how we are!! ...
